Maui is the kind of place you might never want to leave.
As someone who has visited multiple times, I can honestly say it’s the most romantic spot on this side of the planet.
This year for our anniversary, my boyfriend and I were lucky to take an extended vacation in the heart of Maui.
Wanting to spend as much quality time enjoying couple’s activities (and sneaking in some romance), I researched and booked some fantastic activities. I focused on activities that would give us time to enjoy each other’s company, talk, and laugh while learning and experiencing something new.
We experienced the most incredible and intimate sunsets, picnics, hikes, and meals the island offers.
After this trip, I am a self-proclaimed expert on Maui couple activities.
So no need to waste your time searching around. Check out my top 8 list of the most romantic activities in Maui. You and your partner will love it!
#1. Haleakala National Park (Haleakala Crater) – Most Romantic View Above the Sky
The sunset at Haleakala National Park (Haleakala Crater) took my breath away. It was the best part of our trip. Standing above the clouds on a dormant volcano was a special moment for us and brought ancient and modern Hawaiian culture to life.
This could be the state’s most famous sunrise. But we love to sleep in, so we watched the sunset. It was just as amazing (and less crowded).
We drove to Haleakala Crater, which took about an hour from the base. I reserved parking ahead of time because parking was not included in the park entrance fee. The road is in good shape, and there isn’t too much traffic. Some facilities are on the way (but come prepared for the wild!) We arrived about two hours before sunset and took a short walk before setting up our picnic.
Sunset was a profound experience. Colors swirled and reflected in the clouds beneath us while lava peaks cut through the clouds. The quiet and powerful setting was romantic and peaceful.
The mountain is far colder than the cities. Bring plenty of jackets and blankets. Also, closed-toe shoes are a must.
The park is my favorite couple pick because:
- This is a unique experience (you get to visit a volcano’s summit!)
- The views are breathtaking and peaceful, and there are many picture opportunities.
- You can choose to watch the sunset or sunrise.
- It’s a perfect opportunity to bring food and a picnic.
- The trip is primarily accessible by car, and the drive is not long or complicated (people hike up!).
Address: 30,000 Haleakala Hwy, Kula, HI 96790. The Summit of Haleakalā is 30 minutes from this point along 11 miles of a paved road inside the Haleakala National Park.
#2. Drums of the Pacific Lu’au – Best Luau on the Island
This activity was so much fun! If you are looking for an evening of high-quality entertainment in a scenic setting and fantastic food, this is the best luau on the island. It is also the longest-running show on the island, so it has stood the test of time.
The setting was beautiful, with an ocean-side view and an impressive stage and seating area. I loved my lei at the door (and kept it as a souvenir). Our seating was spacious, giving us enough privacy to have conversations and enjoy the show. The staff was friendly and attentive. We didn’t have to wait long, but we didn’t feel rushed.
I loved the show and felt it was very professional. The dancers were impressive, and so were the costumes. My favorite two dances were the warrior dances of the Maori people and the Samoan fire-knife dance. (the flames looked awesome!)
I enjoyed dinner, and my steak was excellent. The potato mac salad was fresh, and the pineapple, chocolate, and coconut cake were terrific. Overall the food was good, and the portions were large. Oh, and the drinks kept coming.
We also got a beautiful picture to remember the experience.
Don’t miss out on this great luau because:
- It is set on the luxurious Hyatt property with a fantastic ocean view.
- The entertainment is high quality with historical content and impressive authentic dances.
- The food was delicious, plentiful, and professionally prepared. There is a large variety of drinks from the open bar.
- It’s the perfect evening entertainment and dinner for couples looking to have fun.

#3. Maui Luxe Picnics – The Best Luxury Picnic (All-Inclusive)
My boyfriend surprised me with a picnic that looked like the setting from my favorite Disney movie (only it was on the sandy beach at sunset!). This was so romantic and well done that I had difficulty believing I wasn’t in a movie myself.
Maui Luxe Picnics offers fantasy picnics all over the island. Their design is stunning, and their locations are carefully planned. My boyfriend said they were easy to work with, friendly, and accommodating. He did, however need to book almost a month in advance.
They pulled out all the stops with sun umbrellas, rugs, comfortable large pillows, soft blankets, elegant white twinkle lights, different candles, sparkling water, and a delicious large plate of appetizers and fruit. My favorite bites were smoked meats with Bree cheese, lychee fruit, star fruit, olives, and avocado dip. Everything was fresh and of high quality.
Of all the activities on our trip, this one made me feel exceptional and super intimate. They also organize picnics for larger groups or smaller celebrations.
I would love to do this again in a different setting, such as a lavender field or waterfall. This is an excellent proposal idea.
Here’s why you will love having a picnic organized by Maui Luxe Picnics:
- There are so many settings and designs to choose from. You can create any fantasy picnic you can imagine.
- They organize picnics all over the island, so you don’t have to travel to them. They come to you.
- They can also do small groups for intimate celebrations.
- This is a super romantic and intimate opportunity to celebrate your partner or even propose.
- The staff is fast, efficient, friendly, and willing to make accommodations.

#4. Pipiwai Trail – The Most Romantic Hike (Magical Bamboo Forest and 400-Foot Waterfall)
If you are a nature lover, this will be the most romantic hike of your life. The trail is about four miles round trip and can be done in a few hours. If you are like us, you will bring a picnic and make it a five-hour trip!
We started the trail after a late breakfast and headed back at about 3 p.m. (the park closes at 5 p.m.) so make time for the hike back. We parked at the visitor center (near the start of the trail) and stocked up on additional water at their store. You can also use the bathrooms here.
There were only so many hikers for being one of the most beautiful trails on the island. We enjoyed our privacy and conversation. The vegetation and views were one of a kind. The trail leads along a string of natural water pools and small waterfalls. There are many resting areas and perfect picture spots.
My favorite was the immense bamboo forest. I had never seen anything like that. The trail was easy to follow, and I felt safe. We had our picnic at the base of the enormous cliff waterfall. It was peaceful. The sounds were exotic and jungle-like. We were lucky to see some wildflowers blooming and several types of birds and butterflies.
NOTE: Haleakala National Park charges a fee to enter. Prices are $30 per vehicle.
This is a must-do hiking trail for all couples because:
- It has the most diverse scenes and vegetation you will ever see.
- The bamboo forest, waterfalls, and natural pools are picture-perfect and romantic.
- The trail is suitable for all skill levels, and there are many comfortable resting spots.
- The waterfall is an ideal place to enjoy a picnic.
- If you are lucky, many flowers will be in bloom.
Address: Start from Kipahulu Visitors Center at Haleakala National Park (which has parking)
#5. Maui Brewing Company – Best Beer Tasting at Hawaii’s Largest Craft Brewery
What a fun and tasty afternoon this was.
We did the VIP guided facility tour and a guided tasting (at the brewery in Kihei). I booked the weekend tour before our trip; honestly, it was cheaper than any other tours we did. We arrived 20 minutes earlier as instructed and had some lager before the tour started (Bikini Blond was the one I chose).
The tour lasted a little over 45 minutes. It was informative, and our guide gave us a tour of the brewing house, cellar and packaging line. He was very knowledgeable and answered all my questions. There were only two more small groups with us on the tour, so it was easy to hear and interact. We had so much fun checking out the process.
The tasting was set with a beautiful view of Haleakala and Molokini. And the beer was of superior quality. I loved it.
Since we were having so much fun, we decided to have lunch in their open garden area. The food was excellent (we had some Chicken Nachos, spicy Mongolian tacos, and a margarita pizza). Overall, we had the opportunity to spend quality time together learning, eating, and drinking -one memorable afternoon.
This brewery is worth your time for a tour and tasting because:
- The setting is beautiful, with a friendly guide and exciting conversation.
- The restaurant has delicious fresh food with excellent beers and sodas.
- It is not overcrowded, so you can enjoy everything without feeling rushed.
- This is a perfect activity for couples or groups of friends.

#6. The Sacred Garden of Maliko – Labyrinths and Walking Meditations
This is such an artistic space. I found it perfect for reflecting, taking an intimate walk and meditating. The nursery is eclectic and has many art installations throughout the area. We loved checking out each of them. We enjoyed the Hindu cultural influence in the space.
This is a place to get lost in together. There are over 10,000 sq. ft. of greenhouse nurseries. It’s full of tropical plants, spices, and flowers. We enjoyed smelling and tasting some of them. My boyfriend’s favorite part was the labyrinth. I adored all the succulent plants on display and for purchase. Oh, by the way, the entrance is free.
We spent about an hour and a half here after lunch. The employees were super friendly, it wasn’t crowded, and we had some pleasant conversations sitting by the koi pond, then meditating in the garden. They also had cute animals, including parrots, bunnies, and chickens.
There is also a picnic area for those wishing to observe and eat. This could be a great date. Since the entrance is free and there is so much to see, supporting them by buying souvenirs or small plants and pots is worthwhile.
Here’s why the two of you will love the Sacred Garden of Maliko:
- This large nursery has many exotic plants and beautiful Hindu-inspired art installations.
- It’s a leisurely place without anyone rushing you, so you can appreciate the koi pond, labyrinths, meditation garden, and even the chickens.
- There is a spacious seating area and a picnic place.
- Entrance is free, and there are opportunities to buy unique plants and souvenirs.
- There are many unique picture opportunities.

#7. O’o Farm – Best Farm-to-Table Tour and Meal
This is the perfect activity for all food lovers and curious couples. Several tours were available, but we did the breakfast and coffee tour. We arrived a bit early and were greeted with amazingly brewed coffee from the farm (incredible feeling!) We sat quietly, enjoying the view until the rest of the tour arrived. Our tour and breakfast lasted a little over three hours.
Our tour guide was one of the workers on the land. Therefore, he was very knowledgeable and informative about coffee growing, the native cultivation of Hawaii, sustainable farming, and natural fertilization. Only 8 of us were on tour, so we got to ask many questions.
There are two parts to the farm tour, and in between, we had a fantastic breakfast. The meal was set up in a beautiful spot near the ocean. It was covered, so there was plenty of shade. I loved the massive log tables and benches. The meal was multi-course with a fresh vegetable salad grown in their garden, Mahi and beets, spinach bread, and melt-in-your-mouth cinnamon rolls.
Breakfast included more great coffee. We spent some time reflecting on everything we heard, which was beautiful.
We paid $125 per person for the tour and a lunch tour for the same price. It’s worth the money, trust me!
You must do the breakfast or lunch tour because:
- The farm is beautiful, with gorgeous views and a gorgeous eating area.
- The coffee is fantastic, and the tours are not overcrowded.
- You will be able to enjoy tasty farm-to-table sustainable meals together.
- It is an intimate setting with the opportunity to learn about native cultivation and coffee growing.

#8. Hawaii Sea Spirits Organic Farm & Distillery tour– Ocean Vodka Organic Farm
What better way to spend some alone time than drinking and eating in a picturesque setting? We booked a guided tasting online for a 4 p.m. slot; it was the perfect time to do some tasting and eating.
This place is impressive, with huge grounds, well-manicured gardens, and walking spaces. We had a wonderfully informative talk about the history of cultivating sugarcane and all the varieties used (wide varieties are grown on the farm). The tasting was very well-guided and lasted about an hour. It was $17 per person, and we added the Exclusive BRUM Tasting for an additional $10.
The best part, however, was after the initial tasting. We grabbed two chairs from the restaurant area and found a perfectly secluded area to appreciate the views (the restaurant lets you do this, and the waiters will help you out!). It was so romantic and Summery as the sun came down. If you have a sweet tooth like me, try the frozen bananas covered with dark chocolate and macadamia nut brittle (yummy!).
This is a must-visit on your trip because:
- The tour and tasting are fun, educational, and a great way to learn more about local culture and farming.
- The distillery is a worthy place to support, as it is all organic and preserves almost 40 types of indigenous sugar canes.
- The restaurant and personalized seating to watch the sunset is priceless.
- The food is exceptionally well done, fresh, and beautifully served (easy to enjoy outside).
- This is a romantic and intimate spot for couples to enjoy food and drinks in a unique setting.
