Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Honolulu 2023

I’ve spent the past month tasting vegetarian dishes all around Oahu with my vegetarian sister and my boyfriend. We visited plenty of places so that she could enjoy delicious, meat-free meals. It was a tough task but someone had to do it, right?

We know how hard it can be to find amazing vegetarian food here in Hawaii, especially when many places are still focusing on traditional recipes that center heavily around meat. Luckily, with our research and testing, we were able to uncover some incredible spots for vegetarians on the island.

My goal with this article is to save you time and help you make the best choice possible based on variety, flavors, and prices.

After all the sampling and searching we’ve done, I’ve ranked these six restaurants according to the flavor profile, quality of ingredients used, presentation of dishes served, the atmosphere of the establishment itself, value per meal cost – plus other non-food criteria like service standard & hygiene rating- so you have an amazing restaurant experience no matter which one you choose.

Let’s get into the best vegetarian restaurants in Honolulu!

Peace Cafe – Best Vegetarian Restaurant in Honolulu

This all-vegan and vegetarian restaurant is committed to serving locally sourced, environmentally friendly, and healthy food. However, they’ve closed dine-ins since the pandemic and are only open for takeaways and deliveries now.

Their menu has a lot of variety and includes delicious vegetarian entrees and sandwiches. Try the BBQ Tempeh plate, Bibimbap, Poke bowl, and Ramen Salad, all made from tasty fresh vegetables.

My sister loved their BBQ sandwich, and I tried the Popeye sandwich with tofu that was bursting with flavor. Pair your meal with a matcha latte, lemonade, or healthy smoothie for a perfectly balanced meal.

Peace Cafe is a terrific option for vegetarians and vegans since they’re one of the best vegetarian restaurants in Honolulu.

Try their appetizers like Sweet Potato Bisque, Crispy Zucchini, and Dragon roll sushi, which are made from fresh veggies and full of flavor. Next, we tried their range of green salads, from which the Organic Romains and Bee Greens Butterleaf salads were delicious.

Oahu is inclusive of all cultures and religions, which is why you can find places like Govinda’s, located inside the Hare Krishna temple in a residential area. The temple’s restaurant has a buffet open for everyone and serves Indian classics like Kofta, daal, and curries.

For a low price, you can enjoy an extensive buffet serving different items during the week. The Monday menu is all vegan and includes Spaghetti and Kofta Balls, Kabocha Coconut Curry, Cauliflower Potato Pea Curry, and Strawberry Halwa for dessert.

You’ll love the flavorful and homemade food at Govinda’s, best enjoyed under the shade of the large banyan tree in the temple.

  • All items on the menu are pure vegetarian, with no onions or garlic.
