Best Pizza in Honolulu 2023 [Avoid Tourist Traps]

When we first arrived in Honolulu, we were excited to explore all the island had to offer. We knew it would be a fantastic trip with its beautiful beaches and stunning views.
But as the days went on, my boyfriend started to miss his home comfort food – pizza. He’s a picky eater, so I wanted to make sure we find some good options for him.
After searching online and reading through countless reviews, we finally found five pizza places that looked promising.
We decided to check out each place and share our honest opinion.
If you’re looking for the best pizza in Honolulu, look no further. We have chosen the best of the best three options for you.
These three places will not disappoint!

#1. La Pizza Rina – Best Pizza in Downtown Honolulu

La Pizza Rina – Best Pizza in Downtown Honolulu

This is the hands-down best (underrated) pizza in Honolulu. The shop is small with about 6 or 7 tables, brick-walled, and gives off a warm and welcoming vibe. The servers are friendly and accommodating, making you feel welcome.

The menu has all the basics, including sandwiches, salads, and pasta. We ordered two small pizzas for lunch, which turned out not to be small. The options were classic, so I ordered Canadian bacon, spinach, and jalapeno pizza. My boyfriend had the Italian sausage, meatball, and mushroom combo. Both pizzas were overflowing with cheese and toppings.

The crust was perfectly baked and very fresh. The sauce was flawlessly seasoned (and I asked for some dipping sauce on the side), which they were happy to accommodating.

This restaurant is not a tourist-overrun catering to resort-style eating. This restaurant is local and homegrown that makes their meals from scratch and makes meals they want to eat. The staff is well-informed and enjoy the food they serve.

Don’t miss out on this number one pick because:

  • This is a local gathering spot with simple and fresh food.
  • The menu has a lot of different options and is suitable for the whole family.
  • The servers are knowledgeable about the food and drinks they serve.
  • This is a convenient place to make your combination pizza or ask for suggestions.

#2. J&B Pizza – Best New York-Style Pizza on the Island

J&B Pizza - Best New York-Style Pizza on the Island

This small, no-fuss restaurant is perfect for a fast meal or some time with the family. Those enjoying the beaches have a pick-up, so call ahead. This pizza was simple and great.

Once I saw my veggie deluxe, I couldn’t wait to eat it. It was covered in spinach, artichokes, olives, tomatoes, and peppers. The cheese was perfectly melted, and the crust was just right (chewy but firm with a slight crisp on the crust). My boyfriend had the chicken bacon ranch. Both pizzas smelled and tasted amazing.

We had some garlic bread sticks as a side with Caesar and ranch dressing. But honestly, it was all a lot of food, and we ate a lot.

If I had any room left for eating, I would have tried the full-size Greek salad (I saw it at the table next to us). The cheese topping looked delicious, and so did the dressing.

Check out this wonderful local hangout because:

  • They make classic New York-styled pizza with fresh ingredients and house-made sauce.
  • The service is experienced, friendly and fast.
  • There are wonderful salad options for those not craving pizza.
  • This is a family-friendly place with pick-up options.

#3. Sophie’s Gourmet Hawaiian Pizzeria – Best Hawaiian Pizza in Honolulu

Sophie's Gourmet Hawaiian Pizzeria – Best Hawaiian Pizza in Honolulu

If you are looking for upscale taste in a simple pizza shop setting – this is your choice. I loved this shop because the inside was beautifully decorated with surfboards and fun beach artwork,

Several families were having lunch when we arrived. We were seated right away, and the waiter had a warm smile. We were seated outside, with a beautiful view.

The make-your-own pizza options were endless. They have creative options like Guava-infused dough, Zesty Sriracha Red sauce, Dry-aged Goat cheese, and Thai Curry-Spiced Chicken. The menu is gluten-free and vegetarian.

We ordered the action-packed pizza with BBQ pork, Portuguese sausage, and cilantro. It was very well made. The crust was just the right thickness, and there was plenty of sauce and cheese. The Zesty Sriracha red sauce was also delicious. We also shared a salad we made with Asian Sesame dressing and feta cheese.

Honestly, whatever you order here, you won’t regret it. The prices and portions are also reasonable so you won’t leave hungry or broke.

Here are some of the reasons I loved this place:

  • The menu is innovative with creative ingredients, and every pizza is practically custom-made.
  • The atmosphere is friendly, and there is seating inside and outside.
  • The portions are generous, and everything is reasonably priced.
