Pah Ke’s Chinese Restaurant
In a lesser-known strip mall along the Kam Highway sits Pah Ke’s, a Kaneohe institution for authentic Chinese cuisine, MSG-free flavors, terrific service, and their large banquet-style interior. You’ll want to get a reservation for dinner since the dining area fills up rapidly after 6 pm (which is why we get lunch here or takeout.)
Their menu is extensive, and whatever you order will taste divine. Our favorite is the Peking Duck, a mouthwatering, full or half, roasted duck with buns on the side to soak the meat juices. A popular dish is the Gau Gee, crispy cake noodles full of meat drenched in a typical Chinese noodle sauce.
Pork Fried Rice, Scallop Soup, Salt and Pepper Shrimp, Szechuan Eggplant, and Chicken Green Salad are great sides and appetizers. However, the portion sizes can serve whole parties, so go with a group or get ready to lug leftovers home.
We’re obsessed with the umami-like flavors at Pah Ke’s, and they’re hands-down the best Chinese restaurant in Kaneohe.
- The service is courteous, and the chef stops by your table to check on the food.
- If you come for dinner, try their nightly specials, which are always terrific.
- Prices are as low as $9 for a full plate.

Kin Wah Chop Suey
A fairly large but simple neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Kaneohe, less than a half-hour drive from Waikiki, Kin Wah Chop Suey serves up the finest Chinese food in Hawaii. Like most local restaurants in Kaneohe, it starts to fill up at dinner time, so come early.
My all-time favorites are the Boneless Minute Chicken Cake Noodles and Almond Duck with a delicious sweet and sour sauce. They also serve terrific Crispy Gau Gee, Pork specials, and seafood entrees from fresh catch, like Walnut Shrimp.
Don’t miss their special Kin Wah chow mein cake noodles and the Char Siu with fried rice, which are local favorites.
You’ll come back here daily for the food and won’t run out of menu options! Undoubtedly one of the best Chinese restaurants in Oahu.
- Their service is so quick you’ll be seated even in rush hour and served within 15 minutes.
- Prices are as low as they can get at $7 for meat entrees!
- The restaurant has a cozy interior and a homely feel.

New Mui Kwai Chop Suey
Another local hotspot and popular for its Hawaiian-style Chinese food flavors, New Mui Kwai Chop Suey, has been around in Kaneohe for decades, and its stellar food only gets better. They’re crowded most of the time, but the staff is efficient and gets your order ready soon after arriving.
From their never-ending menu, start with the delicious hot and sour soup. Next, go for Mui Kwai’s famous Soft Gau Gee Mein, Beef Chow Fun Noodles, Peking Duck with a tangy plum sauce, Cold Ginger Chicken, and Chicken Salad prepared fresh and carrying strong mainland flavors.
Even though local restaurants aren’t big on ambiance, they make up for it in excellent service. You’ll get a glass of ice-cold water on being seated and a pot of hot tea throughout. Plus, the food comes out minutes after you order; that’s what I call quick service!
Make sure to try New Mui Kwai on your trip to the windward coast, as they’re one of the best Chinese restaurants in Kaneohe.
- They also provide shelter services during storms.
- They’re in a strip mall with a crowded parking lot, but you can park in the 7-11 nearby.
- Prices are low with generous portion sizes.
Address: 45-1052 Kamehameha Hwy, Kaneohe, Oahu, HI.
Chinatown Express
You’ll find Chinatown Express farther from the main town area but still a favorite for locals who make the drive for the terrific Chinese food. They have a limited menu, with meat and seafood options, and you can choose a side of rice or noodles with each main.
We tried their Orange Chicken, Beef Broccoli, and Mushroom Chicken, with Shanghai Noodles and Fried Rice. Two words: Insanely. Delicious! Each dish has a distinctive taste, packed with meaty flavors that we love.
You’ll find lots of Chinese tourists here, which goes to say how authentic the food is. We sat close to a couple having mooncakes, and they looked so good we got a plate too. They tasted divine, like the ones I’ve had in Honolulu’s Chinatown, but better!
You’ll become obsessed with the food at Chinatown Express, as they’re one of the best Chinese restaurants in Kaneohe.
- Try the crispy and oily Shrimp Chips while you wait for the food.
- The prices are higher than other Chinese restaurants, but worth the taste and portions.
