#1. The Right Slice LLC, Kalaheo – Best Kauai Bakery
Just thinking about this place makes my mouth water. I never imagined that so many delicious pies could be in one place! This small bakery has the largest selection of pies I have ever seen. The smell of sweet, tangy, fruity, and nutty treats hits you as you walk in. Once you see your choices, it’s hard to leave!
We knew we wanted to make lunch from this visit, so we also got some savory pies. I had the classic chicken pot pie, and my boyfriend had the pork and peas pie. They were both tasty and well-seasoned. The crust was flack; even though the inside was creamy, nothing was soggy.
As far as the sweet pies, I got too many to count! They pack each piece of pie so it’s easy to pick up. We bought some island lime, mango Lilikoi, Belgian chocolate, blueberry pina colada, and tropical banana (they were out of chocolate coconut macaroon!)
Choosing our favorites was impossible, but it didn’t stop us from arguing. In the end, I said the island lime was my favorite. My boyfriend said blueberry pina colada was the best.
Note: They do special orders, so just let them know several days in advance. They have vegetarian and gluten-free options too!
This bakery is a must-stop on your trip because:
- They have an amazing selection of savory and sweet pies.
- Everything is fresh and made in-house from scratch.
- You can buy whole pies or pick and choose piece by piece.
- They do special orders.
Address: 2-2459 Kaumualii Hwy, Kalaheo, HI 96741
#2. Orly Patisserie – Best Birthday Cakes Kauai
This is a close second pick for me! This shop has the perfect combination of sweet and savory products, bread, donuts, and everything else!
We came early, so the shop was fully stocked. There was parking in front of the shopping center. We bought everything we needed for breakfast and snacks for our hike. The smell in this place was like a hug! They run out of food, so plan. The couple behind us got some of everything.
We got some bacon, onion and cheese scones, and Ham and croissants for breakfast. The dough was flakey, chewy, and aromatic. It had a wonderful savory taste. Everything was right out of the oven and buttery.
For sweets and snacks, we got:
- Lemon bars (my favorite).
- Big Chocolate Chip Cookies with Macadamia Nuts.
- Cinnamon buns.
- Blueberry cream cheese Danishes.
- Apple turnovers.
These were the best lemon bars and cookies I have ever had (yes, better than my mom’s!). The other snacks were also very tasty and rich.
I am not a fan of macaroons, but my boyfriend tried two with Lilikoi and honey lavender. He said they were perfect!
I wanted to try the cheesecakes and chocolate cake, but because of our hike, it was impractical.
NOTE: if you pre-order, they do cakes for special occasions!
Not visiting Orly Patisserie would be a shame because:
- They have everything a bakery should have from A to Z (sweet and savory).
- The goods are perfectly baked, impeccably seasoned, and always fresh.
- They have cakes and cheesecake for special occasions.

#3. Aloha Sweet Delights – Best Malasadas in Kauai
I arrived hungry at this bakery early in the morning (left my boyfriend sleeping!) The service was smiling, and the display was full of yummy donuts and pastries. It’s part of a local grocery store, just like my favorite bakery back home.
I bought a lot of food to indulge in. Some of my favorites were the chocolate éclairs, maple glazed donuts, and coconut-filled malasadas. The malasadas were scrumptious, and the filling was super creamy. The maple glaze on the donuts wasn’t overly sweet, and the dough was super fresh.
I also had watermelon tapioca on my way back, which was terrific. (Since nothing was left for my boyfriend to try, I destroyed the evidence!)
My boyfriend’s favorite was the Sweet potato Manju. The dough was fluffy, and the filling sweet and rich. This is something we can’t find at home, so definitely worth a try!
This sweet spot makes pies and cakes to order, and I am sure they are delicious. If you are looking for the best malasadas in Kauai this is definitely one of the best rated ones.
Here’s why this is a great bakery:
- Everything here is made from scratch. It is a local business worth supporting.
- There are many baked options, including savory rolls, croissants, donuts, and traditional baked goods from the region.
- It’s an easy stop to make a meal on the go or picnic. They have drinks too.
- It’s a good place to try out some traditional baked goods made less commercially.

#4. Kauai Bakery & Coffee – Best Bakery in Lihue Kauai
This is the iconic local bakery, so all roads lead here if you ask. This is the spot for me if you are craving homemade brownies and cookies. They have delivery, so we got our goods in the hotel and paired them with some fresh juice and coffee. Perfect!
The super chocolaty cake-like brownie was my favorite (I have been missing it since I left). The chocolate chip cookie was a second! I love chewy sweets. I also had a lemon bar that was very natural tasting and had a thin, crumbly crust. (I liked it a lot!) My boyfriend’s favorite was the malasadas with guava filing. The filing didn’t taste artificial, and the dough was fluffy.
We couldn’t eat everything, so we had a snack on the beach later.
Since we didn’t visit the bakery, I’m sure we missed out on some additional gems. We will visit the shop on our next trip. I think they only work till noon on some days.
Visit this local gem because:
- The shop has many traditional options to try out.
- They have a wonderful mix of exotic and familiar flavors.
- Everything is fresh, and the dough smells great.
- They have delivery options.
